The Treehouse is the simplest way to stay at Sukau Bilit, and the most sociable. Two floors of dorm rooms look out over the old rainforest, joined to the main building by a wooden walkway. Each room sleeps up to six on three bunk beds, kept cool by air-conditioning and a ceiling fan.
Toilets and hot and cold showers are shared, amenities are basic, and the common lounge is where the day’s sightings get compared. It suits budget travellers, groups and friends who would rather spend their time, and money, out on the river.
Kinabatangan River packages include a pick-up transfer at scheduled times from three meeting points. A few practical notes before you set off.
The Treehouse is a base, not a destination: the real business of a stay here happens by boat, on forest trails and in the village of Bilit itself.
