Day 1: Sepilok Orangutan/Sun Bear Conservation Centre/Rainforest Discover Centre

A Morning in the Forest

Our adventure begins in the early morning as we depart from your Sandakan hotel or meet at Sandakan Airport. Buckle up for a day of discovery as we head to the world-renowned Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.

Meeting the World's Smallest Bear

After an inspiring morning with the Orang Utans, our adventure continues to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. Here, you’ll have the extraordinary opportunity to get up close and personal with the world’s smallest bear.

Afternoon Delight at the Rainforest Discovery Centre

Following a satisfying lunch, our next stop is the Rainforest Discovery Centre. Developed by the Sabah Forestry Department, this center offers a glimpse into the enchanting world of the rainforest.

Walk Among the Canopy

For the more adventurous, the 150-meter-long canopy walkway is a must-do. This elevated pathway offers a bird’s-eye view of the lush rainforest, situated 28 meters above the ground. It’s an awe-inspiring experience that connects you with the very heart of Borneo’s natural beauty.

Return to Serenity

After a day filled with remarkable encounters and breathtaking views, we’ll drop you off at Hotel Hsiang Garden. You’ll have the evening to reflect on the beauty of nature and the incredible wildlife you’ve encountered.

Day 2: Sandakan Nature City Tour/Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey/Fireflies

Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple: A Serene Beginning

Kickstart your day at 0900hrs with a pick-up from Hotel Hsiang Garden and a visit to the Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple. Situated atop a hill, this temple offers a breathtaking view of Sandakan Bay. Take a moment to soak in the serenity and capture stunning photographs of the bay’s picturesque landscape.

Agnes Keithโ€™s House: A Glimpse into Colonial Life

Our next stop is Agnes Keith’s House, a historical gem that has been meticulously restored to its former glory and transformed into a museum. Agnes and Harry Keith, the first conservator of the Forestry Department in Sabah, resided here during the colonial era. Learn about their fascinating lives and their contributions to the formation of the Sepilok Orang Utan Centre. Agnes Keith’s writings on Sabah’s early days have etched her name into the annals of Sabah’s history.

Sim Sim Water Village: Houses on Stilts

Australian War Memorial Park: Honoring Heroes

We pay our respects at the Australian War Memorial Park, a poignant reminder of the Sandakan-Ranau Death Marches during World War II. This park is dedicated to the memory of 2700 Australian and British prisoners of war and others who lost their lives at the Sandakan POW camp and during the death marches in North Borneo. Explore the attractively landscaped park, featuring a Commemorative Pavilion, the Memorial Cairns, and the Sandakan Memorial.

Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary: Up Close with Nature

Prepare for a unique wildlife encounter at the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. Nestled within an oil palm estate, this privately-owned sanctuary provides an opportunity to observe Borneo’s indigenous proboscis monkeys up close and personal. Marvel at these remarkable creatures, from young to adult, as they leap from tree to tree and eventually descend to feed on young leaves, plants, and rice cakes.

Village Walk and Local Games: Embracing Culture

By 1600hrs, we gather at Pangkalan B&B for a tea break and a leisurely walk through the nearby village. This immersive experience allows you to witness the way of life of the village people and participate in local village games. These activities are designed to create lasting memories and foster a connection between our guests and the village children.

Mangrove Cruise and Sunset at Pamaguan Island

As the day unfolds, we embark on a mesmerizing mangrove cruise. During the cruise, you’ll learn about the rich biodiversity of the mangrove ecosystem and even get a chance to throw a crab trap, which we’ll later collect. By 1800hrs, we’ll take you to Pamaguan Island, where you can bask in the glory of a stunning sunset for 15 unforgettable minutes. Afterward, we’ll cruise back to the jetty and return to our B&B for a delightful dinner.

Chasing Fireflies: A Magical Night

Our adventure continues after dinner as we walk back to the jetty and set out to chase fireflies. The enchanting glow of these bioluminescent insects illuminating the night sky is a sight to behold. We’ll return to the jetty around 2000hrs, capping off an extraordinary day.

Day 3: Transfer to Sandakan Airport

On Day 3, enjoy a hearty breakfast at Hotel Hsiang Garden before we transfer you to Sandakan Airport. This marks the end of your Sandakan Nature City Tour, filled with memories of nature, history, and cultural immersion.
