Itinerary
Day 1: Sandakan to Selingan Turtle Island
A Tropical Getaway
Your adventure begins as you depart from your hotel in Sandakan or meet at Sandakan Airport. Excitement fills the air as you head to the jetty for a boat ride to Selingan Turtle Island. Upon arrival, you’ll check in to your cozy chalet. The day is yours to explore, relax, and enjoy the pristine beaches. If the weather allows, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters, go swimming, or embark on a snorkeling adventure.
Witnessing a Natural Miracle
As the sun sets and night falls, prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After dinner, a park ranger will guide you to witness the remarkable spectacle of sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. You’ll have the privilege of observing the delicate process, from the egg-laying to the transfer of the eggs to the hatchery. The grand finale is the release of tiny hatchlings into the vast ocean. Spend the night at the Chalet, nestled amid the natural beauty of Selingan Turtle Island.
Day 2: Selingan to Sepilok Orang Utan and Kinabatangan River
Breakfast in Paradise
After a restful night, it’s time to bid farewell to Selingan Island and return to Sandakan. Your next stop is the world-renowned Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Here, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to witness the feeding of the iconic Orang Utan, one of our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. This center, founded in 1964, plays a vital role in rehabilitating orphaned and displaced Orang Utans, helping them return to their natural habitat.
A Journey into the Wild
Following a heartwarming morning with these magnificent creatures, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Then, embark on a journey to Bilit, located on the banks of the Kinabatangan River. Your destination is the enchanting Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort, where you’ll be welcomed by our team. Refreshments will be served, and you’ll receive a comprehensive briefing on the resort’s routes and safety measures.
Wildlife Encounters at Dusk
As the clock approaches 4:00 PM, it’s time for an unforgettable river cruise. This is your chance to encounter the rich biodiversity of the Kinabatangan River region. Keep your eyes peeled for proboscis monkeys, orangutans, macaques, pygmy elephants, and a variety of bird species. The river cruise is an exhilarating adventure in itself. Afterward, return to the resort for a delectable dinner. If the weather permits, join our in-house naturalist for a night walk to discover the fascinating nocturnal mammals that call this place home. Your night will be spent at the Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort.
Day 3: Kinabatangan River to Gomantong Caves and Sandakan
A Serenade of Nature
Wake up to the melodic calls of gibbons and hornbills, signaling the start of another thrilling day. Enjoy a hearty breakfast as you prepare for an early morning cruise along the Kinabatangan River. This tranquil experience allows you to witness the river’s awakening and the stunning flora and fauna that flourish along its banks.
Exploring Nature's Grandeur
After breakfast, it’s time to leave the resort and embark on a journey to the Gomantong Caves. These caves are a natural wonder, home to millions of bats and swiftlets. If you visit during the right season, you’ll even have the opportunity to witness the collection of bird nests by local experts. The journey takes you through rustic countryside and oil palm plantations, providing a glimpse into the local way of life.
