Itinerary
Day 1: Sandakan to Sepilok Orangutan Centre and Bilit
Witnessing Orangutans in Their Element
Your adventure begins as you depart from your Sandakan hotel or meet at Sandakan Airport at 7:50 AM (PREFER MH/AK – 0750HRS). We’ll whisk you away to the renowned Sepilok Orang Utan Centre, where you’ll have the privilege of witnessing the feeding of the iconic Orang Utans in their natural habitat. Established in 1964, this center plays a crucial role in rehabilitating orphaned and displaced Orang Utans, providing them with a second chance in the wild.
Nature's Harmony at Sepilok
The Sepilok Orang Utan Centre is nestled within a magnificent mixed dipterocarp forest, a natural haven for these incredible primates. Over time, the Orang Utans become less reliant on their twice-daily milk and banana feedings at the center, eventually returning voluntarily to the wild.
Journey to Bilit by the Kinabatangan River
After your awe-inspiring encounter with Orang Utans, the adventure continues as you travel to Bilit, situated along the Kinabatangan River. Your final destination for the day is the charming Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort.
Welcome and Briefing
Upon your arrival at the resort, our friendly team will greet you warmly. You’ll be treated to refreshments and a comprehensive briefing that covers the resort’s routes and safety measures. Afterward, it’s time to check in to your comfortable room.
An Evening River Cruise
At 4:00 PM, get ready for a thrilling river cruise in search of wildlife that thrives in this area. Keep your eyes peeled for proboscis monkeys, orangutans, macaques, pygmy elephants, various bird species, and other fascinating creatures. After a rewarding day, return to the resort for a delicious dinner.
Night Walk in Search of Nocturnal Wonders
If weather conditions permit, embark on a captivating night walk led by our in-house naturalist. Venture into the jungle to discover elusive nocturnal mammals and experience the magic of Borneo’s nighttime wilderness. Finally, return to the Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort for a restful overnight stay.
Day 2: Bilit's Wilderness Exploration
Awakening to the Sounds of Nature
Wake up to the melodious calls of gibbons and hornbills as you prepare for another day of adventure.
Morning Wildlife Cruise
Embark on an early morning river cruise to witness more of Borneo’s incredible wildlife. Keep your camera ready to capture the mesmerizing birdlife and other creatures that call this place home. Return to the resort for a hearty breakfast.
Jungle Trekking
After breakfast, join our knowledgeable in-house guide for an exhilarating jungle trek within the resort area. Immerse yourself in the lush greenery and discover the secrets of the rainforest.
Afternoon River Adventure
In the afternoon, set off for another river adventure, where you’ll have the chance to spot even more wildlife and a diverse array of bird species. Return to the resort for a satisfying dinner.
Another Nighttime Exploration
As darkness falls, follow our in-house naturalist on another night walk to uncover the mysteries of Bilit’s nocturnal inhabitants. Once again, spend the night in the comfort of the Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort.
Day 3: Kinabatangan River to Gomantong Caves and Back to Sandakan
A Dawn River Cruise
Rise early and embark on another captivating early morning cruise along the Kinabatangan River. Enjoy breakfast back at the resort before checking out.
Exploring Gomantong Caves
Your adventure continues as you depart the resort for a visit to the awe-inspiring Gomantong Caves. These caves, the largest limestone and bird nest caves in Sabah, are home to millions of bats and swiftlets. If you’re visiting during the nesting season, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to witness the collection of bird nests by local experts.
Returning to Sandakan
The journey back to Sandakan takes approximately two hours, allowing you to soak in the rustic countryside and the lush landscapes of oil palm plantations. We’ll drop you off at your respective hotel in Sandakan or at Sandakan Airport for your onwards flight (PREFER MH/AK – 1400HRS).
